PARROT HOTEL FROM CLAUDE McKENZIE AT THE GENERAL STORE

Joseph Parrot came to Oregon as a baby in 1845. His family founded the community of New Era. In 1877 he married Mary Jesse. (Not his first marriage). They moved to Goldendale and then took up a homestead on the east side of the Klickitat River. They had nine children. Later they moved across the river to Glenwood. They bought the hotel from J.O. Shaw. Joseph was postmaster and kept the office in the hotel lobby.
Joseph and Mary divorced in 1910. Joseph moved down the street and continued to run the post office, eventually moving back to Oregon. Mary continued to run the hotel for several more years and then sold it to Henry and Anna Hansen. She moved into the Hansen home next door.
Daughter Stella, married Clarence Babcock. Daughter Mary Josephine (Josie) married Pete Troh.

This hotel sat where Kay Carr now lives.

Oooops. I think I am wrong about where the hotel sat. I think originally the hotel sat on the west side of Bird Creek, across the road from Margaret and Jerry Throop's white house.
Shaw's sold to Parrot's and Parrot's sold to Henry and Anna Hansen.
According to family, Henry and Anna never operated the hotel and the hotel was moved from its original site. Part was moved to where Kay Carr now lives and another section was moved down by the old Grange Hall.
